The Bangladesh Premier League’s new campaign had officially begun on January 6 in Mirpur with a match between the Chattogram Challengers and the Sylhet Strikers. The league, which will include a total of 7 clubs, is in its ninth season. Comilla Victorians, the defending champions, will compete in the event in an effort to win a record-breaking fourth championship and establish themselves as the most successful BPL team.
The only teams to have won the BPL championship three times each are Comilla Victorians and Dhaka Dominators. In 2015, 2019, and 2022, Comilla won it, accordingly. The team has a 100% winning percentage and has three times advanced to the BPL finals. Their strong squad is one of the factors contributing to their consistency. Additionally, the rosters for the upcoming seasons have been revealed.
Litton Das to lead Comilla Victorians this BPL 2023
The Comilla Victorians, led by Litton Das, are the favorites to win the following season as well. On paper, the squad appears to be rather strong, especially given the inclusion of well-known international athletes. The team’s head coach will be Mohammad Salahuddin, a former Bangladeshi coach. Although last season’s players Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, and Sunil Narine will undoubtedly be missed. However, they have replaced those voids with a few more global superstars.
Mohammad Rizwan, a former No. 1 batter, Imrul Kayes, Brandon King, Chadwick Walton, and Pakistan power hitter Khusdil Shah are all prominent players in the batting department. Litton Das serves as captain. Additionally, they have Sean Williams, Muhammad Nabi, and Angelo Mathews, two seasoned all-rounders. As a result, it appears that this squad has quite a promising lineup.
The bowling division is then even more potent. You’ll watch two of the most well-known bowlers in the shorter format bowling together. Any batting order in the world will be vulnerable to the dangerous bowling combination of Bangladeshi star pacer Mustafizur Rahman and Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi. Hasan Ali, a seasoned pacer, is also a member of the group and improves their ability to bowl. Overall, this team is equipped to capture its second straight BPL championship.
Everything you need to know about Litton Das
Imrul Kayes let go of captaincy of Comilla Victorians to Das following their championship-winning season in 2022. So, who is Litton Das and what makes him the shining cricket star of BPL? Let us find out more.
Liton Das, a Bangladeshi opening batsman and wicket-keeper who was a member of the 2012 and 2014 Under-19 World Cup teams, was born in Dinanjpur. He was hailed as Bangladesh cricket’s next great thing after excelling with the bat in both seasons.
In October 2011 against Dhaka Division, Das made his first-class debut for Rangpur Division. His first season wasn’t fantastic, but he came back strongly the following year, collecting a ton and a half-century. Litton’s career received a boost as a result of his efforts at the Abu Dhabi 2014 U-19 World Cup, where he scored 239 runs in only four innings.
Liton developed as a player following his heroics in the Under-19 competition. It was evident in his performances at home. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the Dhaka Premier League. After that, he also did well in his longer format matches. Liton, who played for Rangpur Division and finished second in List A, eventually topped the run charts in the National Cricket League. He struck five centuries and amassed more than 1000 runs concluding the season with a mind-boggling average of 85.33.
In June 2015, the cricket star played his first Test against India. Before he was dismissed for 44 off 45 balls. Das produced some beautiful shots. He did better against South Africa, the top-ranked team at the time, and scored his first Test fifty. He was immediately selected for the national squad despite not having proven his skills in the shorter formats. When Mushfiqur Rahim is unable to participate in an international game, Das and Nurul Hasan competed for the right to don the gloves.
In March 2017 for an away series against Sri Lanka, Das was called back into the Test team. He performed just well enough to keep his place in the lineup for the two tours that followed, which included a tour of South Africa. He is a great talent with some impressive domestic stats, especially in the longer format.
Das is a batsman who likes to keep things moving and a quick shotmaker who can quickly apply pressure to the opposition. With Rahim giving up the gloves, a lot will be expected of young Das to claim the keeper-batsman position in Test matches. His keeping skills are also fairly good.
Liton Das’ stepping stone turned out to be the Dhaka Premier League’s 2014–15 season. He finished the competition as the second-highest run scorer, and he then put on an outstanding display in the National Cricket League, where he scored five hundreds at an astounding batting average. He was quickly rewarded for his precise and compact batting approach when, in 2015, he was first chosen for the national squad.
In the 2018 Asia Cup final against India, Liton scored his first ODI century, and despite his team’s defeat, he was named Man of the Match for his performance. He produced yet another solid inning with the bat in the 2019 ICC World Cup match against the West Indies. In a significant run chase, he scored a 69-ball 94 and shared a record partnership with Shakib Al Hasan.
Liton Das is seen as the ideal successor to Mushfiqur Rahim because of his experience, and given his talent, Bangladesh will gain from having him on the team in the long run.
